Astonishing tone-perfect addition to the Sherlock mythos placing Holmes a little younger than canon, and with a teenage female protégé. Hard to believe the author's a Californian - she does an incredible job with the language, as well as historic and location-based details. Clever mysteries, enjoyable characterization, and an altogether solid read.
